About

Neil Boyden Tanner has been named His Majesty’s Honorary Consul to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the United Kingdom.  Neil is a distinguished international lawyer and executive currently serving as Executive Officer and Global General Counsel at Olympus Corporation, a leading global MedTech company. In this role he oversees all Legal, Risk, Compliance, Intellectual Property, Board Secretariat matters and Government Affairs for the company worldwide.  Neil is also the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Rome. With an international career spanning over two decades, Neil has demonstrated exceptional leadership in corporate law, governance, and international business strategy.

Before joining Olympus, Neil held several senior leadership positions at The Cigna Group, including Secretary of the Board of Directors, Chief Counsel for the U.S., General Counsel for International, and Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Strategy, Finance, and International Markets. His tenure at Cigna was marked by his expertise in managing complex legal, regulatory and compliance matters across multiple jurisdictions, supporting global health services, and guiding corporate governance initiatives.  Prior to his tenure at Cigna, Neil was Associate General Counsel – International for Aramark Corporation, and an attorney at the law firm for Pepper Hamilton LLP (today known as Troutman Pepper Locke).

An active board member of the British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia for over twenty years, Neil has been a key contributor to fostering transatlantic business relationships and networking opportunities.  He has previously served as the lead for UK US government affairs, and as President of the organization.  Neil also previously served as Non-Executive Director of United Kingdom Trade & Investment. He is a member of the St. Andrew’s Society, the St. George Society of Philadelphia, and the Welsh Society. He has also previously lived and worked in the United Kingdom.

Neil holds a Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary in International Relations – Political Economy, a Masters of Governmental Administration from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh.  He also studied Japanese law at Temple University Japan, and international business at INSEAD in both Fontainebleau, France and Singapore.  Neil is also an Eisenhower Fellow.
