Consul General Trudy Deans assumed duties as Consul General in New York on October 12, 2016, thereby creating history by being the youngest female to be appointed as Consul General in New York. She previously served as Community Relations Officer at the Consulate General from 2010 – 2012.
Prior to her appointment, Ms. Deans was employed as an Administrator at the Telecommunications Union, a United Nations Agency headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. She was responsible for staff located in Geneva and field offices in Asia and the Pacific, Arab States, The Americas, African Region and The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). She also contributed to Grace Kennedy’s legacy, as Human Resource and Training Manager at Allied Insurance Brokers Limited from 2002-2010.
A humanitarian, Ms. Deans has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience in human resource management during her assignments, both locally and overseas. As an HR Specialist, she has coached managers and other employees through professional and personal development as she believes that this is an integral part of an organization’s performance management process but most importantly, the development of one’s self. An advocate for justice in all forms but equally she believes as is her mantra that “with rights come responsibilities”.
Consul General Deans worked closely with Jamaica’s regulatory Body, the Financial Services Commission, where she honed her skills in the areas of compliance and risk management and identifying solutions, where necessary.
She has had professional affiliation with the Society of the Human Resource Management and the Jamaica Employees Federation.
An avid sports enthusiast, Ms. Deans’ hobbies include singing and listening to classical music. She is a member of the Trinity Moravian Choir and the Geneva International Christian Choir & Orchestra. She is also keen on the arts and has an interest in learning about different wines. She uses reading as a method of relaxation and for knowledge and information.
Consul General Deans holds a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management and Training from the University of Leicester, England and a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations and Public Administration from the University of the West Indies.
