With 12 years of Civil Service, Joni Smith has worked in various roles across the Scottish Government – the majority of which included responsibilities for members of the Scottish Cabinet. Most recently, she has worked directly for First Minister Nicola Sturgeon – as Head of her Questions Briefing Team and as a Senior Policy Advisor. Her earlier government communications duties were preceded by experience as a broadcast journalist. Joni is a native of Arbroath with degrees from the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University.
The Scottish Affairs Office in Washington DC is the Scottish Government’s diplomatic mission to the Americas. Its role is to promote and celebrate Scotland’s culture, education, values, heritage and economic strengths, and to strengthen its international relationships and to better share ideas and enhance cooperation.
